Good post. Hard to tell whether short term rate moves will overcome longer term shortages.

Minor typo: “though the counteracting forced of heightened demand” Forced should be forces.

USA has many under occupied military bases. Why don't they build there. New, more comfortable houses for current and future employees. The older blocks could be used to build new houses for retirees or first time buyers not in the military. Alternatively they could be for rental income to the military.

Pay it for it out of the defense budget.
